The 2025-26 flu season is coming up again, which means that it is already flu shot season! It’s a great time to get COVID vaccines too as these are now available at both CMA offices too!
We are offering the 2025-26 seasonal flu vaccine at CMA, and we have open appointments on Saturdays for flu shots and COVID shots (see below!)
Here are the basics:
- Flu & COVID shot appointments on Saturdays are open for scheduling every weekend of September and October, and on some weekday evenings as well!
- CMA provides and encourages flu shots for parents too, but unfortunately can only offer the COVID vaccine to children to ensure we have adequate supply
- We have plenty of the seasonal flu shot to go around, and we have a small supply of the live, intranasal Flumist vaccine.
- Flu & COVID shots are recommended for almost all healthy children, and are especially important for younger children or those with a history of respiratory disease or weaker immune systems.
- You can schedule your appointment today! You can easily schedule on the portal or call our office during business hours
Keep reading for more helpful information about the flu and scheduling these appointments, and some details about COVID vaccines as well.
Each year millions of people in the U.S. get the flu, and a large number seek emergency care or are hospitalized due to its effects. The CDC and CMA recommend that almost all individuals 6 months of age and older receive a flu vaccine each year, especially very young children or individuals with high-risk medical conditions like a weak immune system or a chronic disease like asthma or heart disease.
Who should vaccinated against the flu & COVID:
- All individuals 6 months of age and older who have not previously had a severe allergic reaction to a flu or COVID vaccine
- Individuals with egg allergies should still get a flu shot. At CMA we will carry Flucelvax. Flucelvax is an entirely egg-free flu vaccine.
How to sign up for a Saturday flu shot clinic?
- To sign up for a Vaccine Clinic, please log-on to the portal or call the office today!
- Schedule through the CMA patient portal. Please sign on to schedule for a time slot that is convenient for you
- You can also call the office to speak with a member of our team if needed
- As with previous years, we are offering flu vaccines to children and parents! Many children feel more comfortable getting shots with a family member. Please consider making it a family outing to stay healthy this season!
- We will primarily be giving flu shots. A small amount of nasal flu vaccine (Flumist) will soon be available as well.
- (NOTE: For families specifically requesting Flumist, we will plan to send out an update email when this is available. You can also inquire about availability by calling our office to speak with a member of our team.
COVID vaccines available for all children too!
We have COVID vaccines in stock, and we plan to offer the COVID vaccine along with the flu vaccine during Saturday clinics as long as supplies last.
COVID vaccines by age group: Moderna will be given for children from 6 months of age through 11 years of age, and Pfizer will be available for children 12 years of age and up.
It is ok if you child has previously received Moderna and now will receive Pfizer, or vice versa.
There is significant uncertainty about the recommendations for COVID vaccines from governing bodies in the U.S., but providers at CMA continue to recommend the vaccine for most healthy children based on the vaccine’s safety profile and benefits in all age groups 6 months of age and older.
It is unfortunately very possible that some insurance companies may stop covering the vaccine. If this occurs, there are some families who may need to pay for the cost of the vaccine themselves. Please discuss recommendations regarding the COVID vaccine with your child’s provider if you have questions. Our goal is for all CMA families have access to the COVID vaccine for their children. We aim to be able to do so in both of our offices.
A few additional details:
There is no need to wait until later in the season to get a flu shot. The doses in September will protect us and our kids throughout the flu season!
Children under 9 years old who have not had the flu shot at least twice in the past are recommended to get two doses of the flu vaccine this season. The doses can be separated by as little as 28 days.
As noted above, we do not yet have Flumist for families interested in this option, but we should be receiving a shipment in the near future!
